An unusual request from Auckland fashion magazine Black, a photo shoot for a new range of Karen Walker Eyewear. They needed a cluster of microphones as props. We grabbed a bunch of mics and got busy.

It was a two day shoot with Derek Henderson the photographer - great theme too - Eastern dictators and Third World despots, and those big sunnies they always seem to wear at press conferences . .  you know the look.

Karen's husband, Mikhail Gherman, directed the shoot and wanted the mics to be tightly clustered with different shapes and styles.
Soon we discovered it's quite tricky to get mics into a close cluster even with boom stands - we piled stands on top of one another, wrapped gaffer all around and put some on goose necks - after a few rolls of gaffer, the shoot began.
